Jolly Good?

Ain't it odd to see Hollywood, Bollywood and Hong Kong celebrities in most of our tv commercials these days? What has happened to our local faces? Maybe we Malaysians believe that the word 'local' means bad in terms of quality, as I recall from my younger days...
Every single programme on the television will at least reveal one commercial which depicts faces which are not 'local'. Eventhough some commercials do use local faces, but still they are pan-Asians. Where have all the 'sawo matang' Malaysians gone to? Is it because they are 'locals'? Do all local 'products' have no quality and cant't make it BIG?
What is this mentality? What has the government been doing? Maybe in the next few years all local tv movies and dramas will use foreign actors and actresses. Well... Jolly good!

Shaytan, Shaitan, Satan, Devil: "Where will I live, eat, sleep?"

When Shaytan, Shaitan, Satan, Devil was ordered out of Heaven by Allah, he asked 3 questions: "Where will I live? Where will I eat? Where will I sleep?"
Allah told him that he, Shaytan, Shaitan, Satan, Devil would live with the person who did not say Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (In the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful) before he/she entered his/her house.
Shaytan, Shaitan, Satan, Devil would eat with the person who did not say Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (In the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful) before he/she started to eat.
Shaytan, Shaitan, Satan, Devil would sleep with the person who did not say Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful) before he/she went to sleep.

LOL (Laugh Out Loud)

Teacher
While visiting a rural school, the Chairman of the Board of Education became provoked at the noise the unruly students were making in the next room.
Angrily, he opened the door and grabbed one of the taller boys who seemed to be doing most of the talking. He dragged the boy to the next room and stood him in the corner.
A few minutes later, a small boy stuck his head in the room and pleaded, "Please, Sir, may we have our teacher back?"
Millionaire
An English teacher asked her class to write an essay on what they'd do if they had a million dollars. Rostam handed in a blank sheet of paper.
"Rostam!" yelled the teacher, "You've done nothing. Why?"
"Because if I had a million dollars, that's exactly what I would do," replied Rostam.
Appearance
FATHER : "Mariam, I've had a letter from your teacher. It seems that you've been neglecting your appearance."
MARIAM: "Dad?"
FATHER : "He says you haven't appeared in school all week."
Pupils
A: Did you hear about the cross-eyed teacher?
B: No. Why?
A: He couldn't control his pupils.
Homework
A: Miss, would you punish me for something I didn't do?
B: Of course not.
A: Good... because I didn't do my homework.

SALOON - Malaysian Style

What would a foreigner get if he enters a 'saloon' in Malaysia? He will get his hair done. Yes! But the problem is that the foreigner actually intended to get intoxicated or drunk. That is one of the wonders of Malaysia: Malaysian English. If we go anywhere in Malaysia, we will get to see the word 'saloon' in front of premises pertained to hair, facial and body treatment. The correct usage should therefore be 'salon'. This is because a 'saloon' is a bar where people go to get drunk, just like what the foreigner had in mind. Even the pronunciation of the two words differ. So after this, don't go around making a fool of yourself. Adios...

National Television: Inappropriacy and Lunacy

What is it with the national television these days? Are they all going out their mind? All tv stations, free and cable-based, are doing nothing for the betterment of the viewers' minds. Everyday (Yes, I mean everyday!), we are served with a variety of dramas and films which repeatedly project horror as the main and solitary theme. Today, Malay horror dramas are even being aired during primetime. It is as though horror has become a main issue in our country. Perhaps that is why the television is also known an 'idiot box'.
Then there's the reality shows. I can dauntlessly claim that 98.5% of the contestants are young Malay teens. Reality shows are getting stupider and stupider by each passing days. The contestants are yet much dumber. It is as though our nation is in dying need of SINGERS. But, in the end, after the contests, these kids are not even involved in singing. The become actors, hosts, 'jokers', etc. Some runner-ups are even not offered recording contracts! Stooopid eh?... That is what people mean by the term 'idiot box'. Get it?

The Traveller: A Never Ending Journey?

Crash! Boom! Bang! That is what a musafir (traveller) as I, always witness along the highway. Road accidents along the PLUS Highway constantly happen. Every single day! These tragedies have made me contemplate that I am always putting my whole life at risk every single weekend. Life as a musafir is not an appealing experience. I always leave for City X at approximately 2.30 - 3.30 pm every Thursdays. Driving along the highway at 160-170 km/h is veritably a thrill. The fastest I've thrusted my 1600cc engine was at 190 km/h. I could reach a 380 km destination at just 3 hours and 30 minutes. But at the end of the day, I always remind myself to be extra careful because misfortunes and mishaps could trigger at any moment. Nevertheless, personifying a musafir has its rewards too! A musafir - whatever his or her intentions are - has been promised to have his or her prayers granted. God's will... (TO BE CONTINUED)

What The Lawmakers Should Have Done To Improve Our School Students' English Language Proficiency

1. All government schools, be it primary or secondary, should be equipped with several language labs each. These language labs are indeed really efficient in monitoring individual students in the aspects of listening and speaking. The use of headphones and being placed in individual cubicles will minify the students from being too vocal for the wrong reasons.

2. Reduce the number of students in each classroom. The figure should be scaled down to not surpassing 25. Overcrowded classrooms do not provide a conducive and contributing environment to language learning.

Youth of the Millennium

Negative traits among youths in this modern era are by no means a result of miseducation in schools. The primary cause of extreme misconducts is mainly contributed by their own parents' improper actions and attitudes. The upbringing at homes does not reflect that they are qualified to be caretakers. Much to our dismay, parents nowadays assume that schools are just so-called day care centres.
